Aretha II - Ariel no Fushigi na Tabi (Japan) (Early Beta)
- - Matthew Callis

An interesting RPG for the Super Famicom, Aretha II - Ariel no Fushigi na Tabi (Japan) (Early Beta). This is an earlier beta than what was already released out there.

Compared to the later beta and final, it is pretty much ported straight from the first game, as it still has the original title screen. Other things are left unchanged or unfinished, such as the enemy names and the backgrounds to the fight scenes. The font was also slightly tweaked by a few pixels here and there. Other things are slightly different but you’ll have to find them.

Space Funky B.O.B. (USA) (Source Code)
- - Matthew Callis

Update 2018: The more appropriate page for this is now at the Space Funky B.O.B. page on the Super Famicom Development Wiki.

Well, well. What have we here? Is this a first? Maybe. Hopefully. So what is it? It’s the source code to the Super Nintendo game Space Funky B.O.B.. from Electronic Arts / Gray Matter. This is an early game for the system, and you can really tell with the equipment and software used, more on this in a bit. I haven’t tried to compile the game, I don’t know if the compiler they used is included. The files included range from the original MIDI version of some songs, to RAW format graphics to various types of sources to some fun developers notes.

Some of the software that was on the disks used is old, but what’s odd is that some of it is used to emulate even OLDER hardware, the Apple II. The Apple II emulator includes some files, but never having used that computer, I myself started with Windows 3.1, I’ll let some investigative readers figure that out. Some of the other software included is ICE, which I have gotten to work only once, it was an interactive debugger setup. Next, we have SLUGGO. I couldn’t find anything online about it in 30 seconds of searching. From the READ.ME included it seems to be the Sluggo III which looks to be a ROM emulator, and not much else.

If you would like to help, the best thing to do as of right now is to please link to this page or the main page and NOT link to other sites; if for whatever reason my link goes down or my site get shut off, this will change (duh) but right now let’s stick with this. If you would like to help by donating anything from money to books to software to hardware, contact me over on the contacts page or donate to gapetto at gmail via PayPal. Thank you and as always, enjoi!

Oraga Land Shusai - Best Farmer Shuukaku-Sai (Japan) (Sample)
- - Matthew Callis

An interesting game for the Super Famicom, Oraga Land Shusai - Best Farmer Shuukaku-Sai (Japan) (Sample). Sometime it’s titled a little differently on the last few words like Oraga Land Shusai: Best Farmer Senyuken though I don’t know which is more correct.

It’s a puzzle game where you race the clock and another farmer trying to get the most crops grown inside a square garden. You have to watch out for tornados and gophers who will steal your crops. More on point, this is another sample cart, but it has a custom printed label, which is just text on solid red.

The dump itself is very peculiar, only working on SNES9x, it’s very over dumped but simple trimming prevents the game from even booting. It’s quite weird, I couldn’t find the header either, though I only looked for 15 seconds. The title screen is slightly different, with the two companies Vic Tokai and Nitto switched in order, company politics no doubt. Inside the game, the placement of the player id, 1P, has moved to the right to align with the label. There is also a score counter that is completely missing from the final version of the game, not sure why. The seeds are all set and you can do as many as you want seeing as it’s a tech demo. The palette in this game has been tweaked a bit too in the final version, being made slightly brighter. First are sample screens, then retail. Enjoi!

Dragon Ball Z - Super Butouden (Japan) (Sample)
- - Matthew Callis

Switching gears this time, a Super Famicom sample cart dump, Dragon Ball Z - Super Butouden (Japan) (Sample).

It’s essentially identical to the released game except: there’s no story intro in black & white; the title screen has a big disclaimer written on it; you don’t have access to all of the characters in the game; and the palette seems tweaked slightly. That’s it, nothing really special. Enjoi!

BS Konae Chan no Dokidoki Pengin Kazoku (Japan)
- - Matthew Callis

Time again for another brand new BS-X dump, actually 2 but they’re the same game just from two different broadcasts in the same week. It’s a really fun game, but has a limited number of start ups, so if you have this cart enjoy it while you can. This game is like Frogger meets Lemmings.

You play an Eskimo who leads your penguin friends to the other side of the melting ice, jumping from one floating platformer to the next. All this time you collect various fish and more penguins friends from treasure chest. Watch out for the green birds that will swoop down and take a penguin. At the end you get your score and go on to the next level. This BS-X ROM like the last BS-X dump will only work on a select few emulators, except this time SNES9x OSX only and bsnes Windows only. Enjoi!
